Technology is a practical subject where students solve design problems and produce artefacts. These artefacts combine use of a variety of materials including wood, metal, plastics, in conjunction with mechanisms and electronics. All this is supported through knowledge of health and safety, communication, energy, materials, equipment, processes and structures. Technology combines a variety of learning styles and is suited to the widest range of student abilities.
Technology in the curriculum has a significant contribution to make to our future society, culture and prosperity. The subject is offered here at junior and senior cycle. Careers associated with the subject include engineering – electrical and electronic, chemical, mechanical and civil, teaching, designing, mechanic, architect, technician and many more.
