Physical Education & Sports Facilities
Gort Community School has superb facilities for pupils to participate and excel in a broad range of sports and physical activities. Our facilities include;
- a full sized multi sports indoor hall,
- 2 indoor squash courts,
- a fully equipped gymnasium with state of the art cardiovascular and resistance machines,
- GAA pitch,
- Rugby pitch,
- Soccer pitch
- an 80 metre astro-turf complex comprising of three 6 a-side soccer pitches and goals along with set of GAA posts at either end of the facility
- a 250 metre floodlit running track.
Physical Education curriculum
Junior Cycle
Pupils in the Junior cycle have access to a double period (80 minutes) of Physical Education each week.
Pupils have an opportunity to engage in all seven strands of the PE curriculum within this time frame including;
Gymnastics,
Games,
Dance,
Athletics,
Health Related Activity,
Aquatics and
Adventure Activities.
Senior Cycle
Pupils in Senior Cycle have an option to take a treble period (2 hours) of P.E. each week.
Pupils at senior cycle can choose their specific pathway in P.E. be it competitive sports, social recreation or health related activity.
Transition P.E
TY Physical Education allows pupils to experience different forms of activity and gain accreditation which can enhance their summer job prospects. Examples such as martial arts, GAA coaching dadges and outdoor pursuits are all offered during the course of the year.
LCA PE
Pupils in LCA undertake 2/3 modules in PE through their 2 year course.
