Senior Boys Volleyball
This is another sport for the first time in the schools history where we are competing in the senior boys’ volleyball. We played our first tournament in Loughrea Vocational school against a fancied Loughrea side and were narrowly beaten. We won our first match in Volleyball against Kiltimagh and were unlucky against Bandon. Training is going very well and we aim to improve with every competition we enter. A tournament will be held in the school in the upcoming weeks and we hope to get one up on Loughrea. Watch this space.
Spikeball
The 1st year girls made history by becoming the first team from the school to take part in the Spikeball tournament. On the 19th December 3 teams travelled to Loughrea to take part in a blitz against St. Brigid’s and St. Raphael’s winning 5 out of 15 games, a very promising start to a sport new to the school. After Christmas, the girls were back in Loughrea taking part in the All Ireland Championships against St Brigid’s, St. Raphael’s, Ardscoil Mhuire Ballinasloe and Convent of Mercy Roscommon. The Gort girls did very well, one team was unlucky to lose their 3 games while the other team won 3 out of 4 and qualified for the semi final where their game against St. Raphael’s ended in a tie. With the team getting the next point progressing to the final, the Gort girls were extremely unlucky that after a long rally they lost out. However, the girls played very well and are looking forward to upcoming tournament.
