BASKETBALL ROUND UP 4
Gort Community School has acquitted itself well in basketball arenas around the country in recent weeks. The 1st Year Girls team, who won all three of their matches, have progressed to the next level of The Western Regional League. They clocked up convincing wins against Salthill, Tuam and Castlerea. The 2nd Year Girls team have also made it throughto the next stage with two wins under their belt against Tuam and Castlerea. These teams show great potential and it is hoped that they will do well in their respective competitions.
The U-19s Girls team did very well to get through to the All-Ireland Semi-Finals stage of the league. They fought valiantly but, unfortunately did not triumph on the day. Notwithstanding, this does not detract from their huge achievement in advancing so far in this league.
The U-16s Girls team won their All-Ireland Semi-Final match against Holy Family, Newbridge in Dublin on Monday 1st March. This talented team have been training intensively throughout the year and have earned a well-deserved place in the All-Ireland Final. This will take place on Monday 22nd of March in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght, Dublin. All of the coaches wish them well on this auspicious occasion.
