School Leadership Team

schoolleadershipMr. Pat Gilmore, Chairperson of the Board of Management of GCS along with principal Mr. Corry, the Chairperson of the Students’ Council, Evan Ashton and Vice Chairperson of the Students’ Council, Polly Edge O Neill met with the School Leadership team this week.
The School Leadership Team comprises of all the class captains and vice captains of the school, as well as the members of the Students’ Council. The agenda of the meeting centered on the role of the SLT in promoting a student friendly atmosphere in the school.

Global Swim Series 3K Open Water European Championships 2016

Congratulations to Ciara Doran, 4th year student in Gort Community School who was the 1st overall female winner of the Global Swim Series 3K Open Water European Championships 2016 which was held last weekend in Carlingford, Co. Louth. Ciara finished 3rd overall but was the 1st female.

ciara-swimming-2016Ciara, who currently trains with the City of Derry Swimming Club, to date has won a number of Championships including: Irish Nationals Division 1 held in Dublin in July, Ciara won the 1500m Freestyle Gold Medal and a Silver Medal in the 800m freestyle. In The Open Water Championships, held in Enniskillen in July she won the 17k National Long Distance Championship and she won the 5k ‘Swim Ireland’ National championship in August, which was held in Athlone.

We wish Ciara every success in her future training.

Gort Community School create history!

Gort Community School 4-7   Claregalway College 1-4

Gort Community School created history on Wednesday by winning the Connacht minor “A” Camogie title (for 1st & 2nd years) for the 1st time ever.

They squared up to their opponents Claregalway College on a beautiful sunny day in Loughrea.

Congratulations! WEST SIDE STORY have just won 6 awards at the GUMS (Galway University Musical Society) awards this afternoon:
1: Best Musical Number for America
2: Special Award, Best Rising Star – Jamie Callanan
3: Special Award, Best Shop (Community Centre)
4: Special Award, Eamon Veale & Eoghan Hanley
5: Best Accent – Allanah Kenny Flaherty
6: Best Show

Well done to all students, staff, parents and all volunteers who took part and/or helped make the show happen.
